Thanks for making the 2012 CBC St. Baldrick's Fundraiser a Huge Success!

Well, we did it! The 60+ heads we shaved on Saturday have raised over $13,000 for St. Baldrick’s BaseBald and more donations are still coming in!! Chase Jones from the St. Baldrick's organization shared with me that our efforts have singlehandedly funded summer fellowships at a children’s hospital for 2 physicians.  Congratulations to everybody for their efforts, in particular the following participants who each raised more than $500 on-line:

  • Jackson Sobocinski $1400
  • Cody Evans $1060
  • Bashi Westphal $695
  • Gus Westphal $626
  • Drew Govert $598
  • Roanoke Valley Fishers $580
  • Steve Lonegan $555

And, we successfully hosted 21 games for 8 CBC teams and 10 visiting teams in 6 different age groups at 6 different fields on a beautiful Saturday in Chapel Hill.

I am personally very proud of what we, the CBC, accomplished and hope you share the same level of pride in our players and organization.  We received positive feedback from our visiting teams about the event – the cause we supported, the tone of the games and for our hospitality. Pulling this off required a lot of help from a lot of people who deserve our thanks…

  • Chase Jones for providing us the platform for this event
  • Patrick Currin for an unspeakable level of effort in planning and delivering the event
  • Cindy Miller and Jen Liebe for getting the concessions up and keeping them running (Cindy has been unknowingly named to the new position of CBC Food & Beverage Director)
  • Rosie Matsko for stepping up to be our #1 shaver
  • Julie Byerley and Kevin Guskiewicz for their help with the BaseBald table
  • Trudy Lonegan for her shaving skills and concessions help
  • Steve Lonegan for early morning setup and hosting the 9:00 AM 12U game at Homestead
  • Alex Romel for field maintenance
  • Coach Sobocinski for his shaving prowess (sore back and all)
  • Debbie Vanderford for stepping in as our 8th inning set-up shaver
  • Tom Sutton for being our closing shaver
  • Karen Whitfield and Carl Strawther for Patrick’s birthday cake
  • Heather Harris for being our twilight concessionaire
  • Tiger Harris for communicating the event and latenight cleanup at Homestead
  • John Govert for allowing us to use his F-150 and for moving the mound from McDougle
  • Denny and Lynn Marcin for latenight cleanup at Homestead
  • Randy Trumbower for donating field maintenance equipment for our use
  • Andrew Miller for keeping the fields looking good all day and umpiring the 7U games
  • Tyler Romel for field maintenance and photography
  • Ian Templeton, Jacob Guskiewicz, Jack Jansen and Braden Barnett for keeping the fields looking good all day
  • Nelson from Take One Haircutters for donating his time (way more than what he originally signed up for)
  • Chick-Fil-A for providing chicken sandwiches at a reduced price
  • The Town of Chapel Hill for use of the fields at Homestead Park and Cedar Falls Park
  • Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools for use of the school fields
  • The families, coaches and players from Roanoke Valley Fishers (7U & 9U), GBI Express (9U), Aces Baseball (11U and 12U), Carolina Riptide (11U), Orange County Athletics (12U), Orange County Crushers (12U), Bull City Bulldogs (13U) and Team Carolina Cobras (13U) for coming to town to play ball and help us with the cause

Thank you again. Best of luck to all of our participating teams for the remainder of the spring 2012 campaign!
